For this project we had to create a 1-2 minute information based sequence about a selected 'anniversary' topic or event. This piece had to combine & consider a number of design techniques including narrative, typography, graphic design, animation and live action, as well as being able to communicate the information successfully.
Brief:
Outline:
My chosen topic was Jimi Hendrix, and as he is well-known for being a guitarist, I decided to focus my project around his famous guitars, more specifically his Fender Stratocasters.

Reflection:
I enjoyed this project as I had the opportunity to focus it around a topic I am interested in. I experimented a lot with new software and techniques which allowed me to further develop my understanding of motion design. Working in 3D is something I wanted to get better at, so pushing myself to model a complex object, animating this in 3D and getting more comfortable with the camera & lighting functions within the software, is something I am proud of. I also wanted to experiment further with different animation techniques & creating a digitally drawn frame-by-frame animation allowed me to do this.
Regarding my final outcome, I am not as pleased as I would like to be. After spending a lot of time creating the components (3D guitar, frame animation, etc) - all of which I was very pleased with, I would have liked the compiled sequence to flow better. In future, I will spend more time on research and defining the narrative to give me a better understanding of what I am trying to achieve and aim to create, rather than just compiling all the individual components towards the end of the project. Something I am very passionate about is making my projects unique and creating them in my own style, but this is another thing I struggled with in this project. I also struggled with the information aspect of the brief. I believe there is a lot of unnecessary content in my final outcome and again, if I had spent longer developing the narrative and script, I may not have had this problem.
Overall, I am happy with what I have learned and experimented with throughout this project and am proud of the individual components I created, but would have liked the final outcome to be more coherent as a sequence.
