The Motion Design Unit was split into 2 main sections, these being 'Visual Communication & Typography' & 'Motion Typography'. As well as having several main projects for this unit, we also had various workshops to experiment with motion design. The workshop outcomes are shown below

MOTION TYPOGRAPHY

Animated Poster:

Design & animate a looping typographic poster for an imaginary documentary called, 'Saul Bass: The Man Behind The Titles'. The poster should feature the name of the documentary, along with 'coming soon on Netflix' as the loop point.

Type & motion (software workshop):

Using Adobe After Effects to animate 3D type, & creating basic morphs between shapes & type

Storyboarding type:

For this workshop we we're given an existing typographic driven piece which we had to deconstruct & create a storyboard for.

VISUAL COMMUNICATION

Basic layout:

This workshop was to design business cards that use only type. While designing, I had to express my personality & individual style, recognise what the most important information was & how I could emphasise it & also consider the type sizes & fonts carefully to ensure the text is legible.

Type & image layout:

For this workshop, we had to create the front cover of a vinyl album using the text & images supplied, focusing on the layout, relationship between typographic elements & their relationship to the image.

Visual research:

For this workshop we have been allocated an imaginary film & have to produce a pitch that would be shown to the director - including initial ideas & reference material for designing the title sequence. My Imaginary film is titled, 'A New Britain' and is a story set against the backdrop of the 1951 festival of Britain.

Typography & layout: Consider the fonts that reflect the historical, geographical & cultural context of the film, & how these are used in various design contexts

Colour, texture & pattern: Consider the colours, textures & patterns that typify the historical, geographical & cultural context of the film.

Initial proposal: A title caption that has been developed from the research
